Ballast Piping Replacement

Our Ballast Piping has been rusting away over the years from salt water.  We started replacing these pipes to get ahead of all the leaks we were having.  This project has been ongoing since 2013.  After much work, this project has been completed.  Dan Cinowalt really played a large part by welding much of the piping together, but we have had many volunteers put in countless hours hauling the pipe down, installing, welding, and surveying the ship's pipe work to ensure completion.

Thank you to all our hard working volunteers who spend so much of their time and effort to make this ship great and keep it that way!

James Terry Newton prepares to enter the last tank they are working on.

It is a tight fit for any man, these holes were meant for a different generation.

Looking straight down shows the ladder and the pipe connections.  PVC is being used to prevent corrosion except for where the pipe passes through the ship's bulkheads or baffles (short walls that help with liquid sloshing around).

John Tallent has also been welding when available.

Having a happy volunteer crew is the best measure of an organization's success.  We are constantly improving and will continue to keep this wonderful ship afloat with the help of our hard working crew.
