Engineering Work Week was very fruitful.  Volunteers pulled the covers off of the Main Engines and began overhauling them.

John Hatton and Greg Smith pause for a picture next to the Port Side Engine.

John Fields with Marine Systems came to volunteer his time.  DJ Painter shows him the Engines.

A piston removed from one of the engines.

You can see the paper towel and bag covering the hole left by the piston to prevent bolts falling in.

A beautiful girl if I've ever seen one!

DJ and our faithful Black Gang have pulled out the Fuel Injectors for retooling by Diesel Fuel Injectors in St. Louis.

A better view of the replacement piston and the cylinder walls.

Dee Churchwell is working on rebuilding a valve in the Auxiliary Engine Room.

Owen Chapman, David Jenkins, and Howard Matthews work to install a new pump for Crew A/C.

As a side note: Above is what they call 'Frankenstein'.  This panel is live electric and painted with lead; if you touch it, you're in for a shock.  This is the main electric panel for the ship's engines.

This is the back of the panel with exposed wires.  70 years ago they were not worried about OSHA.
