LST Fans everywhere: We are progressing. Yard says we will be out of Dry-Dock next Thursday, Feb. 14 -- Happy Valentine Day! The wheels (Propellers) will be here this Friday. Went to Wheel Works inc. today, just a short distance down the road. Very nice people, family run business.
They have closed the hole in port shaft alley, Evaporator room port shaft alley (escape trunk), working on last one in fwd ballast tank. They have the bearings, Cutless bearings for stern shafts. Working on closing holes in "ice deflector", almost have the doors remanufactured, doing a great job. Still working in Emergency Fire Pump room -- we will have to put this room on the tour, it is going to look great. Done with 4-10-0 V. Working on 4-13-0-V, not much to do there. Scullery we believe is done finally. This was where the dent was in the STBD side.
They are high pressure washing STBD side as I speak 2010 hrs! That is in preparation to sand blast and paint. Still working on Port side up front -- way up front and next to the beak. Also working on Ramp Hinges -- a couple were deteriorated some. Will be working on the bow door hinges the half welded to the ship. Stbd side has 4 of the hinges needing a little work on the metal they are welded to. I believe each door has 7 hinges. Got bids on cleaning, high pressure wash and painting 3 center line tanks under the tank deck. Crew is just 8 strong at the moment, but doing great, all are working hard keeping things ready for shipyard. I believe the two of my crew that had to leave for a short time will be back by this Thursday. CG aboard today - liking what is being done and I am sure looking for the job to be done; as we all are. Today it was 75 degrees, sunny and nice. Looks like rain for next 3 days. It will be hard to paint. Hope all of you are staying healthy and the snow shoveled! Capt. Bob
