Grove Crane Repairs saved us $5,000

DJ Painter arrived a few days early for ShrinersFest 2016 and got right to work taking apart the Grove Crane. The parking brake was stuck.

DJ Painter needed two days to get the wheel rims unstuck from the hub assembly, he even used a torch to try to release it.

Once other engineers arrived they quickly jumped in to lend a hand.

DJ welded a pipe to the deck to hold the axle while they took it apart.

The inside of the housing differential which looks great.

They pulled out the pinion housing that clamps against the brake discs. The pinions were stuck and that was the problem.

Captain Kubota got in on the repairs, he is always getting into something.

Once they got in there they seen that we needed mostly cleaning, a couple parts, and new grease to get her running.

Our Engineering crew is better than ever.  Saving us money by working hard to fix problems ourselves.  Even when the rest of us get a break to see the Main Deck during events like ShrinersFest 2016, the Engineers have to stay down below and make sure the ship is ready to go.  They also have many other jobs like saving us thousands on repair of the Grove Crane on the Main Deck.  How do you spend your spare time?

  1. Your good knowledge and kindness in playing with all the pieces were
very useful. I don’t know what I would have done if I had not
encountered such a step like this.
