Port Side Head Refurb

Last year we started using the Port Side Troop Berthing, or Marine Quarters, for our volunteers during cruise.  We've needed the extra help on cruises in the past and this area has really helped out.  The Port Side Head however is not ready for use and needs major refurbishment.  We started this project during the Engineering Work Week this year.

This is the head currently.  You can see the sinks aren't hooked up, it needs repainted, and the showers and toilets are non-existent.

Work begins with removing the paint to see what the metal looks like after years of rust.

This is a gritty job, but we've got a great crew working hard!

Gary Garcia heads up this project.

The bulkheads aren't the only parts that need TLC.  The floor had several layers including tile!

You can see the layers here by the original water heater leg.

Using needle guns to remove as much paint as possible makes work faster than just scraping.

Safety is our goal, so breathing protection, eye protection, and hearing protection are being worn at all times.

After two weeks of scraping and work, we have a cleaner slate to work with.  Installation of plumbing is planned for this summer or during the cruise as time allows.
